Meet the Flock

Every Cotton-Clucker is one of a kind — hand-knit sweaters, wide surprised eyes, and personalities far too big for their egg-shaped bodies. Each one even has their own song. Here's who you might find waiting for you at The Hatchery.

The five Cotton-Cluckers standing together in their signature knit sweaters

They hatched on the same crisp autumn morning in a row of softly glowing incubation pods — five tiny, fluffy, vaguely bird-shaped wonders, each one already wearing a hand-knit sweater nobody remembered putting on them.

Nobody has ever fully explained why. Nobody has ever needed to. Some mysteries are better left cozy.

Sunny Sticklegs — Cotton-Clucker wearing a yellow knit vest with a red and cream striped scarf
The First to Rise

Sunny Sticklegs

"Good morning! Is it morning? It's always morning somewhere."

Sunny was the very first of the flock to crack her shell, and she has not stopped talking since. She emerged at 5:47 a.m. with her yellow vest already on, already wiggling, already absolutely certain that today was going to be a wonderful day.

She is the friend who wakes you up too early, makes you pancakes you didn't ask for, and somehow makes you happy about it. Her stick legs are the twitchiest of the flock — she cannot stand still for more than four seconds, which makes her a terrible hide-and-seek partner and an excellent dance partner.

Captain Cranky — Cotton-Clucker wearing a red and cream striped knit sweater
The Reluctant Leader

Captain Cranky

"I'm not grumpy. I'm just... carefully unimpressed."

Captain Cranky's Song
"The Grumpy Little March"

Captain Cranky did not ask to be the leader of the flock. He was simply the loudest when the others couldn't agree on a name for the group. He suggested "The Flock." Everyone agreed. He has been annoyed about it ever since.

Underneath the stripes and the furrowed brow, Captain Cranky is the flock's most loyal protector. He is the one who stands at the edge of the shelf at night, watching over the others while they sleep — mostly to make sure nobody falls off, and partly because he doesn't trust the cat.

Argyle A. Cockerel — Cotton-Clucker wearing a blue and cream argyle knit vest
The Distinguished Gentleman

Argyle A. Cockerel

"A gentleman is simply a patient wolf... in a very nice vest."

Argyle's Song
"A Very Fine Vest"
Download the Lyrics

Argyle arrived second — or third, depending on who you ask, and Argyle insists on being asked. He is the flock's most formal member, the only one who says "good evening" with total sincerity, and the one most likely to be found reading a book that is, quite frankly, too advanced for a plush toy.

His argyle vest is the most requested design at The Hatchery — he wears it with the calm confidence of someone who knows he looks great, and he is right. Beneath the dignity, however, is a bird who laughs so hard at his own jokes that he sometimes tips over.

Gordon Green-Vest — Cotton-Clucker wearing a green knit sweater, eyes closed in a happy smile
The Zen One

Gordon Green-Vest

"Eyes closed. Heart open. Snacks nearby."

Gordon's Song
"Just Breathe, Little Bird"
Download the Lyrics

Gordon is the only member of the flock who hatched with his eyes already closed. Not because he was tired — because he was already at peace. He has been at peace ever since. His green vest is his anchor, his smile is his default, and his stick legs have never once wobbled in stress.

When the flock argues — which is often — Gordon is the one who quietly sits in the middle and hums until everyone calms down. He has never said a harsh word. He has also never said much at all. That's part of the magic.

Barnaby The Beanie — Cotton-Clucker wearing a cream and burgundy patterned sweater with a red beanie
The Storyteller

Barnaby "The Beanie"

"Did I ever tell you about the winter I lost my hat? Well — I didn't. It's right here."

Barnaby's Song
"The Beanie Ballad"
Download the Lyrics

Barnaby is the smallest of the flock, which he will tell you is the reason he is also the warmest — small birds get cold faster, so he wears two layers: his burgundy-knit sweater and a red beanie that has been on his head since the moment he hatched. He has never taken it off. The flock suspects he cannot.

He is the flock's storyteller — a teller of tall tales, endless anecdotes, and warm little fables that don't quite make sense but somehow always end with everyone feeling better. He is also the one who started the tradition of naming everything. The lamp is called Steve.
